Much of what is seen in the news, in autism parent communities, in research, and in fundraising (Autism Speaks) focuses on autistic children. Only recently has there been information or attention paid to autistic adults and their experiences. But no matter the attention paid to it, nor dearth of resources devoted to it, the fact remains: autistic children grow up. Some may need continued care, some remain at home, others are able to live mostly independently, some live completely independently, but they all face a world with significantly fewer resources for those in their age group. 

Autistic Burnout

Autistic Burnout is a very real problem. Burnout is what happens from years of passing. Years of floating through and coasting as a neurotypical. And right now, it’s where I am. Right now, I am burned out.

There is no such thing as an Autistic Adult    by Pensive Aspie
"Autism only occurs in children.  Because it is a childhood disorder, as an autistic child leaves adolescence behind, the symptoms of their autism will gradually decrease and disappear. By the time the person is an adult, they will be completely Autism-free. They will have no need for speech or physical therapy. No need for mental health services. They will be fully functioning adults – ready to get a job, go to college and begin their new life without autism.

Of course this is ABSOLUTELY, 100% NOT TRUE, but this is something I am told every day by the media and organizations that claim to “support Autism.”    READ MORE
